An Australian actor and father of actress Tamsin Carroll, born in 1944, in Sydney, Australia. He attended the University of Sydney, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts, and the University of New South Wales, where he earned a Master of Arts with Honours. While studying at the University of Sydney, he began acting as an amateur. After graduating, he worked as a drama teacher for two years. He later attended the Central School of London, where he studied Speech and Drama.
He also obtained a diploma in Education from Sydney. He began his professional acting career through theatre, where he was part of a group of actors and directors who inaugurated the new wave in Australian theatre, and was a key member of several theater groups in Sydney. His credits include numerous films and TV series. Among his works are Happy Feet, Crazy Rich Asians, and Sleeping Beauty.
