An American novelist born in Kansas City, Missouri. His father was a professor at Northwestern University, and his mother was a children's book writer. After studying journalism, he joined the 3rd Infantry Regiment in the US Army, and after his service ended he became a film critic, a position he held until he joined the Washington Post in the same capacity in 1997. He won the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award in the criticism category in 1998. He also won the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism in 2003. His novel "Point of Impact" was adapted into the 2007 film Shooter, as well as the 2016 series of the same name.
