An American actor born in San Leandro, California, on January 15, 1913. He received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1994 and a Golden Boot award in 1996. He was married to actress Dorothy Dean Bridges (1938-1998), with whom he had with 4 children, and remained with her until his death. He finished high school at Petaluma School in 1931 and studied at the University of California, Los Angeles. His father owned a theater and worked in the hotel business, and he hoped his son would become a lawyer, but Lloyd turned to the art business after graduating from university. He acted, produced and directed on Broadway before joining the movie business in 1936 under a contract with the Columbia Corporation. He was accused of communist tendencies and it hindered his career in the fifties, but after the FBI acquitted him, he turned to television work and became a star on the small screen. Among his most important works: High Noon (1952), Sea Hunt (1958), and Airplane (1980). He died on March 10, 1998 in Los Angeles.
