American actor, born in Saint Anna, California, USA on January 29, 1917 as John Emmett Raitt. He received the Golden Laurel Award in 1958 for The Pajama Game (1957) and also received a star on the Walk of Fame in 1992. He married Marjorie Haydock (1950-1971), with whom he got 3 children, married Kathleen Smith Landry (1972-1981), and Rosemary Kreamer (1981-2005) and remained with her until his death on February 20, 2005 in Pacific Palisades, State California, USA affected by pneumonia. His most important works include Annie Get Your Gun (1957), The Pajama Game (1957), and Broadway (2003). He studied at Fullerton High School and graduated from the University of Redlands and worked in Broadway musicals, He was one of the most successful singers and he joined several groups before signing a contract with MGM to appear on the cinema screen to sing and act in musical films. He is the father of Steven Raitt and David Raitt and singer Bonnie Raitt.
