Salma El-Sharkawy |
American director, assistant director, producer, and screenwriter. He was born and raised in Harrington Park. He attended Tisch School of the Arts and Northern Valley Regional High School. He was assistant director to John Sayles on the independent film Matewan (1987), and he worked alongside a number of filmmakers, including Richard Linklater, John Schlesinger, and Steven Soderbergh, with whom he worked on King of the Hill (1993). Criminal (2004) was his debut feature film as a director and screenwriter. He directed a number of additional projects, including Magic Mike XXL (2015). Among the several honors he received was an Emmy for Behind the Candelabra (2013). In addition, he was given the American Directors Guild Award in recognition of his outstanding work in television directing.
