He graduated from Kenyon College in 2000 where he majored in English and...Read more religious studies. He attended the University of Chicago, Green and worked as a school counselor. His experience working with children with life-threatening illnesses inspired him to write "The Fault in Our Stars" even though he was not actually attending college. He lived for several years in Chicago where he worked for the book review journal Booklist as a publishing assistant and production editor while writing Looking for Alaska, and while there he reviewed hundreds of books, especially fiction, and Islam. He won the 2006 Printz Award for his debut novel, "Looking for Alaska" which was number one on The New York Times Best Seller list.
