Biography

An American comedian, born in New York City, New York, USA, on February 25, 1901, as Herbert Marx. Among his most notable films are Animal Crackers (1930), Horse Feathers (1932), and Duck Soup (1933). He was the youngest member of the Marx Brothers act, which also included Chico,...Read more Harpo, Groucho, and Gummo. He joined the act to replace Gummo, who retired to found a talent management company in Hollywood. Zeppo participated in several films in which he played the role of the straight man, and then he left his brothers' comedy act to become an agent for the company that his brother founded in 1934, and then he left him to establish his own company, Marman Products, through which he patented a wristwatch for cardiac patients, which sounded an alarm if its wearer went into cardiac arrest. Also, his company produced devices that were used in the first atomic bomb raids. Zeppo died on November 30, 1979, in Palm Springs, California, of cancer.
