In 1950, he worked as a teacher at a Bronx high school, which served as the inspiration for his 1954 book Blackboard Jungle, which was adapted into a movie in 1955. Among his writings are High and Low (1963), The Birds (1963), and Fuzz (1972). He died in Weston, Connecticut, USA.
