An American actress, born in New York City, USA, on March 8, 1910. She won an Academy Award in 1938 for Best Supporting Actress for Dead End (1937), a Primetime Television Award in 1957, a Golden Boot Award in 1995, and a star on the Walk of Fame in 1960. She married 3 husbands and had a child. She is known for Stagecoach (1939), Murder, My Sweet (1944), and Key Largo (1948). She was born as the only daughter of an immigrant father from France who worked as Terzia in Paris and left her during the economic depression. She started her career at the age of 11 by working in silent cinema. She finished high school at Mamaronic, completed her studies at Columbia University, and spent 6 months studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Art. In 1930, she signed a contract with Warner Company to continue her successes in starring films. She appeared on Broadway in 1932 and continued her work in theater and cinema. In1953, she joined the television. She died on April 8, 2000, in Newport Beach, California, USA, affected by respiratory diseases.
