He is the first Romanian-born Oscar nominee (along with Bianca Oana, one of the four producers of the documentary Collective). He has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in the Directors and Documentary branches since 2021. Also, he was a member of the jury for the Official Competition at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in 2021.
