An American actor, born in Chicago. Robert began acting in high school, gaining attention in the Chicago Experimental Theatre Company. He then began appearing in Hollywood productions, making his film debut in the cult classic Cooley High (1975). He then went on to appear opposite Denzel Washington in A Soldier's Story (1984), Diane Lane in Streets of Fire (1984), and Kevin Costner in American Flyers (1985). Robert wrote, directed, produced, and starred in his first film, Hollywood Shuffle (1987), a critically acclaimed satire depicting the trials and tribulations faced by Black actors in Hollywood. The film won the Golden Unicorn Award for Best Film at the Amiens International Film Festival. |
