• An English actor born in London, England, United Kingdom. He received two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. His credits include Topper (1937), The Philadelphia Story...Read more (1940), and And Then There Were None (1945). He studied at Sherborne College and University of London, trained as an actor at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and debuted in theater in 1908. After several years, he went to New York and established himself on Broadway in 1912. He obtained American citizenship in 1918 and participated in the First World War. After the war, he worked in several silent films, and joined the talkies during the 1930s. He continued to work in film and television until his death in 1953.
