An Italian writer and director, born in Rome, Lazio, Italy. During his artistic career, he won many awards inside and outside Italy. He married two wives and had three daughters. Among his most important works are Il Marchese del Grillo (1981), Casanova 70 (1965), For Love and...Read more Gold (1966), and Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958). Mario Monicelli's father was an editor and a novelist, and he had three brothers who were all novelists. He studied history at the University of Milan, and when he was a student at the university, he directed a 16mm short film for which he won an award at the Venice Film Festival in 1935. He died by suicide by jumping from his hospital room in Rome, Lazio, Italy, on November 29, 2010, at the age of 95.
