She was an American writer, poet, and art critic. She was born in California, USA, to author Theodora Kroeber and anthropologist Alfred Louis Kroeber. Later, she received a Fulbright scholarship from the US government to complete her studies in France. She wrote children's books, short stories, poems, and articles, and some of her writings were turned into films, such as Tales from Earthsea (2006) and The Lathe of Heaven (1980).
