His most notable works include Detour (1945), The Brute Man (1946), Bruce Gentry (1949), and The Great Jesse James Raid (1953). He married 3 women and had 1 child. He had a very turbulent life outside of acting which ultimately affected his acting career. In 1965 he shot and killed his third wife and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He got out on parole in 1971 and died 8 months later on 7 August 1972 due to heart problems in North Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
