Her family moved to New York in the early twenties to work in the vaudeville theater singing, dancing, and acting. In 1930, George White's Scandals was shown in 1931, and they headed west to present their first films, Poor Little Rich Boy (Short 1932). She suffered from chronic hypothyroidism and severe mood swings, which affected her private life, especially since her marriage from the beginning was tumultuous. She tried to commit suicide.
