British actress born in Cheshire, England on 26 February 1874. She began her career in London theater as a teenager then graduated from the Royal Institute of Performing Arts. She appeared in the West End then moved to the United States and became a star on Broadway. She appeared...Read more in several silent films like Old Lady 31 (1920), and Pied Piper Malone (1924). Her first talking film was Side Street (1929). Her most notable works include Seven Keys to Baldpate (1935), The Great Dictator (1940), and Dr. Kildare Goes Home (1940). Her last film appearance was in The Woman in White (1948). She was married twice and had a child and adopted another. She died of a heart attack on 14 December 1966 in Los Angeles, California, United States.
