British actor, born on October 17, 1937, in Kent, England, UK. He trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He was the artistic director of the Shaw Festival, the second-largest theater in North America. He received an honorary degree in arts from Trent University in 1978. He was married to the actress Patricia Gage (m. 1971; div. 1986) and got married again to Catherine Jane Robertson and had two children. He is known for Back to School (1986), Magnum, P.I. (1982), and Kate & Leopold (2001). In 2001, he was nominated for Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Actor in a Lead Role in a Play for The Invention of Love.
