She started acting in Telugu theater and her film debut was with a minor role in Kanyasulkam. However, she returned to the stage after this and played a lead role in the Telugu version of Rakta Kanneeru. The play has been performed more than 100 times in Tamil Nadu. She was elected Member of Parliament for the Telugu Diem Party from her native town of Tenali. Some of her works include Samaj Ko Badal Dalo (1970), Nimajjanam (1976) and Swayamvaram (1972).
