He got his first job at the age of 12 when he was hired as a stagehand at the Gainey Theater in Dublin. He later worked as a carpenter in theater decorations, which led to more interest in acting, and he toured Ireland, working on theatrical work, and moved to cinema in 1934. His first distinguished role was in 1947 when he appeared with Stuart Grainger in the movie Captain Boycott (1947). He died in Dublin, Ireland, on March 3, 1985, from heart failure.
