An American actor and playwright, he was born in Warrensburg, Missouri, on April 28, 1874. Sidney was married twice and had no children. He's best known for playing the famous detective Charlie Chan in 22 films from 1938 till 1946. He had a successful career in theater, as he had his own theatre companies, wrote many plays and was a renowned comic actor on the Broadway stage. He died in 1947, at age 72.
