An Egyptian writer born to a father who was a professor of physics at the Faculty of Science and a translator, and a mother who was a member of the Wafd Party and a personal friend of Safiya Zaghloul. He was the elder brother of composer Baleegh Hamdy. He was the first Egyptian cultural advisor in London. He was chosen as a censor of the books of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, whose mission was to summarize the English books, newspapers, and magazines that came to Egypt.
He served as the head of the State Information Service and the first official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic. He's known for From Universal Stories for Children (1985). He died on April 16, 2013.
