She began studying acting, singing and dancing at the age of 17 at Playhouse in Manhattan. She worked as a model and appeared on the covers of many magazines, including Playboy. Her artistic career exceeded 7 decades. She won the 1959 Golden Globe Award for God's Little Acre in 1958 and was nominated for the Golden Laurel Award for the same film. She won the Pop Culture (TV Land) Award in 2004. She was married to the actor and producer Les Crane (1966-1971) and had a child before their divorce.
