She began singing and dancing in black nightclubs in Philadelphia in the 1930s, providing voices for animated works, such as Tubby the Tuba (1976). and The Fox and the Hound (1981). He returned to Broadway in 1975. He died on August 17, 1990 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA of heart failure.
