An American actress of English and Scottish descent, born in Buffalo, New York, USA. She was nominated for 3 Golden Globe Awards. She won two Western Heritage Awards and a Golden Boot Award in 1985. She was married four times and had no children. Her works include The Adventures...Read more of Hajji Baba (1954), Miss Robin Crusoe (1953), and Gunsmoke (1955-1974). Her father was a banker. She graduated from Clermont High School and attended Pomona College, but she devoted her time to acting more than studying. She made her debut in the MGM movie Stars in My Crown (1950), and her first television appearance was in 1952. Her most famous role was in Gunsmoke (1955-1974), in which she participated for 19 years, appearing in 569 episodes. She continued her film and television career until she appeared in her last work, the TV series Dragnet (1989). She died in Sacramento, California, USA on August 16, 1989 from AIDS-related hepatitis.
