An American actress, born in Buffalo, New York, USA on February 20, 1929 and died in Sacramento, California, USA on August 16, 1989 from hepatitis related to AIDS. She was nominated for a Golden Globe Television Award in 1972. She won a Western Heritage Award in 1972 and a Golden Boot Award in 1985. She was married to four husbands and got no children. Her most important works are The Adventures of Hajji Baba (1954), Miss Robin Crusoe (1953), and Gunsmoke (1955-1974). She was the only daughter of English and Scottish parents, and her father was a banker. She graduated from Clermont High School and attended Pomona College, but devoted her time to acting more than studying. She participated with MGM in the movie Stars in My Crown (1950), and her first television appearance was in (1952). Her most famous role was Gumsmoke (1955-1974) in which she participated for 19 years, where she participated in 569 episodes of the series. She continued her film and television work until she presented her last work in the TV series Dragnet (TV Series 1989–1991). She died at the age of 60.
