An Austrian film, television and theater actor, born in Luckenhaus, Burgenland, Austria. He started performing on stage in Austria and Germany when he was 17 years old. When Hitler took power, he left Germany, due to his Jewish background, and returned to Austria, appeared in some films, and focused on theatrical work, until Hitler invaded Austria in 1938, so he traveled to France and from there to the United States, where he appeared in many anti-Nazi films, and also appeared in television shows. He married actress Eleanore Birn (1919-1973), who remained with him until his death. Among his credits are From the Earth to the Moon (1958), The Pride of the Yankees (1942) and Temptation (1946). He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA on January 29, 1973, at age 89.
