Irish actor born in Larne, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on July 27, 1925. His parents were Jewish immigrants. He got married to actress Diana Hoddinott (1965-2009), they had three children, and she remained with him until his death. He joined the British Army During World War II. After being discharged from the army, he made his debut at the Guildhall Theater in Londonderry in 1946. He began acting in England in the 1950s, and got affiliated with the National Theatre, Abbey and Gate Theaters in Dublin, and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Among his important works are: The Blue Max (1966), Strictly Personal (1953), and Lassiter (1984). He died in London, on July 24, 2009 of cancer.
