Hiam Abbas -Palestinian actress and Jury member at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival- said that the Palestinian cinema has a major problem in finding production. In her interview with the Cannes official website, Hiam added that there are a few known names that can find production, however, young filmmakers might wait for a long period that can reach to seven years before they find proper finance. Moreover, Hiam compared between the Palestinian and Israeli cinema as the last has many funds to support its cinema production which results in many films that compete in international festivals. Also, she pointed to the clear difference in subjects handled as the Palestinian cinema still focuses on the invasion issue, whereas other cinemas are handling other subjects far from politics. Hiam spoke about her experience in working with international directors from different cultures and said the main difference between all is the director's vision. She believes that a good director is the one who is capable to broaden his awareness in all aspects of life. Its worth mentioning that Hiam has participated in many important Arabic and international films in the past decade like: "Bab El Shams – Sun's Entrance" by Yousry Nasrallah, "Al Janna Alaan – Paradise Now" by Hani Abu Asaad, "Lemon Tree" and "The Syrian Bride". Also, she had roles in "The Limits of Control" by Jim Jarmusch, "Munich" by Stephen Spielberg, "Amreeka" by Sherine Dabes and finally in "Miral" by Julian Schnabel.
