Anne Hathaway confirmed she’s signed on to play in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming new sci-fi film “Robopocalypse,” which is already scheduled to start shooting sometime next year, according to statements made to Empire magazine.

Hollywood Reporter also noted that discussions were underway between producers and the “Les Misérables” star on her joining the project. In September, Hathaway told Empire “if Robopocalypse happens I will be in it, and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.”She added: “Whenever I'm taking time off, I always joke to my team that I'm on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, 'OK, put my money where my mouth is’.”

Playing on a deep-rooted anxiety about human relationships to machines and artificial intelligence, the film’s storyline revolves around a revolution launched by robots against their human masters. The film will be based on the popular novel by Daniel H. Wilson. Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw are rumored to be involved in the project as well.

Spielberg and Hathaway are both awaiting releases of their new films. Hathaway is starring in the musical drama “Les Misérables,” which comes out over the Christmas holidays, while Spielberg’s “Lincoln” will open later this week on Friday the 16th.
