El Araby and his family migrate to Suez. Fares is waiting for his father El Araby outside the school and crashes into Magdalene's car, the daughter of the captain with whom his father works. The relationship between Fares and Maggie is strengthened despite the objection of her driver.

2nd Episode

The driver warns El Araby of Fares chasing the captain's daughter. El Araby worries about the captain's anger and warns Fares. Maggie visits Fares and gifts him with a novel. As the driver informs Maggie's mother about the relationship of Fares and Maggie, the captain gets angry and warns El Araby.

3rd Episode

After the captain warns Maggie not to go too far in her relationship with Fares, he dismisses El Araby from his work on the ship. Fares passes the exam. Gamal Abdel Nasser announces the nationalization of the Suez Canal. Maggie flees with Fares and refuses to return to France with her father.

As Fares and Maggie travel to Alexandria and arrive at their old house, the police hand Maggie to the captain. Fares's father rebukes him for what he did, while his mother considers marrying him off to her niece. Fares meets a street vendor, whom he asks to help him travel to France to Maggie.

Fares leaves a letter to his father stating that he fled to France. As Samiha and her mother, Najiya, arrives from Idku, news of Fares's fleeing angers them. El Araby decides to follow his son. Fares's mother asks Najiya to leave Samiha with her until the return of El Araby and Fares.

El Araby boards the ship from Alexandria, while Fares’s journey continues with El Prince on the ship. Fares arrives in France and meets Maggie at her home with El Prince. Her father, Maurice, is upset while she takes them on a picnic with her. France, Britain and Israel declare war on Egypt.

As El Araby learns that Fares visited Maggie and then vanished, he finds him in prison, where he joins him with El Prince. Maggie convinces her father to help them. The war erupts against Egypt. El Prince dies in a protest against French colonialism and El Araby insists on burying him in Egypt.

After returning to Egypt, Fares refuses to return to Suez because of his feelings of guilt after the death of El Prince. Samiha tries to get close to Fares, who ignores her despite her love for him.

El Araby rejects Fares's attempts to travel again, and refuses to let Samiha stay in his house so as not to get attached to Fares, who doesn't think of her. Samiha refuses to travel with her mother. As Fares gets a job at the port, Maggie sends him a letter, so he runs away, leaving a letter to his father.

El Araby faints, reads Fares's letter then storms out. Samiha marries another man. Maggie sends a letter about studying journalism, while Fares neglects to write to his family. With the 1967 defeat, Abdel Nasser steps down from ruling Egypt, and the Suez Canal is closed.

Samiha returns to El Araby's house after her second divorce because she can't have children. In Suez in 1971, El Araby and the men are preparing weapons for the resistance. The October War breaks out and the Bar Lev Line is destroyed; El Araby is injured. Maggie returns to Egypt and remembers Fares.

As Maggie meets El Araby in Fares's house, she learns that Fares didn't read her letters because he traveled; she seeks to conduct a journalistic investigation about El Araby after he's paralyzed in the resistance. In Morocco, Fares falls for Isabella, while working as a waiter on the ship.

As Fares travels with Isabella to Spain on a journey to learn about the Andalusian heritage, he meets her family. Aznar gets angry at his cousin Isabella's relationship with Fares and threatens to kill him. A passenger on the ship advises Fares to return to Egypt to see his father.

As Fares wishes to marry Isabella and have many children, Aznar attacks him in the street. Annette objects to her father Raymond's relationship with Lisa, and confronts her father, who confesses his love for Lisa many years ago. Fares plans to marry Isabella despite being threatened.

As Fares and Isabella get engaged, Aznar congratulates them, but he seeks to kill Fares. Lisa sees Aznar and recognizes him despite his disguise on the ship and asks him for the price for working with him and having been tortured because of him years ago. Aznar tries to kill Fares, but he falls dead.

Lisa helps Fares hide the murder weapon and tells him that she won't tell anyone. Aznar's body is thrown into the sea and Lisa tries to bandage Fares's wound. Fares tells Abdullah that Aznar tried to kill him and hides in Abdullah's room while Isabella looks for him for being late for the wedding.

Lisa proposes to Fares, promising him a life full of joy with her, but he decides to escape as soon as the ship arrives in Marseille. He arrives in Toulon looking for Maggie, but doesn't find her father's villa. He learns that his father's ill and decides to return to Egypt, where he finds his father has died.

Fares collapses after his father's death. Samiha rejoices upon learning that Fares has not married abroad. Samiha cries when asked about her marriage, so Fares knows that the reason is her love for him. Maggie arrives at Fares's house, recalling with him the past and her love for him.

Fares tells Maggie that he was going to marry Isabella, but he didn't, and that he was looking for her. Maggie tells him that she married a captain, but the marriage failed, even though she had a daughter. Sheikh Sayed asks Fares not to travel again. Fares meets Maria, a cafè owner in Alexandria.

Fares refuses to have his mother sell her gold and Samiha gives him her savings. Fares travels with Maria and Marica, and gets acquainted with Mahmoud, who studies medicine abroad according to his father's wish. In Cyprus, Maria's Casino is attacked by unknowns. Monsieur Armand escapes with a bag.

After Monsieur Arman feels threatened and gives his bag to Fares to hide it, he is killed and Fares follows the killers, who are then arrested. The ship sails while Fares is in the police station, and after he leaves, he goes to Maria's café.

After Fares escapes from the mafia who killed Armand and goes to hide in Marica's house, Maria is threatened and tempted with money to lead them to Fares. Samiha hopes and waits for Fares to return, while Eid, his cousin, hopes to travel with him abroad.

Maria signs a power of attorney for Julia to run the cafè and decides to travel with Fares. Julia tells the mafia about Maria and Fares out of fear. The mafia boss detains Maria and threatens Fares, asking him for the bag of money he hid. Fares returns to the ship to find the rats have eaten the money.

Sheikh Sayed finds many diamonds in the bag and gives them to Fares, who buys a large villa and takes with him his mother and Samiha, who is trying to marry him. Fares thinks of marrying Maggie, to his mother's dismay. He travels to Paris and meets Lisa.

As Fares is arrested after Lisa reports him for killing Aznar, he is deported to Spain for interrogation, upon which he is sentenced to twelve years in prison. Isabella visits Fares and tells him that Aznar killed her first husband. Fares's uncle proposes to Samiha, but Fares's mother expels him.

Ten years pass, and Fares's mother and Samiha wait for the return of Fares, who returns with his hair has grown gray and his health has deteriorated. As Samiha tells Fares she has loved him for many years, he tells her he was suffering in his exile. Fares decides to turn Koreim's house into a museum.

As Fares insists that he has children and that he got married in several ports he visited, he confesses to his mother that he was in prison for a crime he hadn't committed, and asks the postman to look up the addresses of those he married. Simone, Magdalene's daughter, informs Fares of her mother's death.

Fares looks for Armand's heirs to restore their rights. Mandour, Fares's uncle, dies. Fares learns about Maria's disappearance years ago and regrets what happened to her. Isabella comes from abroad and Fares decides to marry Samiha after Isabella travels.

Maria calls Fares from London, telling him that she didn't die and that she gave birth after he traveled. Samiha collapses from grief. Fares sets up a huge celebration to receive his expected son. Maria arrives in Egypt alone and tells him that his son will arrive in two days.

Finale

John arrives from abroad and Fares calls him El Araby. Fares tries to stop his son who has joined the coalition forces that will fight in Iraq, but John leaves to the airport. Fares confesses to Maria that the bag contained diamonds and that he didn't return to Cyprus out of greed; she leaves angrily.
