Ra'afat remembers how he ended up in the mental hospital, after the village mayor accused him of assaulting him and claimed his insanity when Ra'afat found out about the murder of one of the villagers. Ten years later, Ra'afat tries to contact his sister Alawiya, who seized his inheritance.
As Ra'afat joins a trip from the mental hospital under the supervision of Dr. Hisham, he leaves the members of the trip to search for his sister, Alawiya, and asks uncle Hussein to stay with him.
When Alawiya refuses to take Ra'afat and insists that he stay in the mental hospital, Dr. Hisham threatens to report her to the police and force her to take him since he's completely cured. Hala tries to inquire from Sawsan about the condition of her uncle Ra'afat.
As Ra'afat begins to search for his uncle in Port Said, he discovers that he has passed away. When Hala meets Dr. Hisham, he reassures her about the health of her uncle Ra'afat.
As Ra'afat returns to Cairo with his cousin Sawsan, Dr. Hisham helps him work as a doctor again. Alawiya prevents her daughter Hala from seeing Ra'afat.
Ra'afat forces Alawiya and her husband to pay him a large sum of money as a part of his inheritance. As Ra'afat buys an apartment to live in, he meets Hala and gets to know Magdy.
As Ra'afat visits his old friends in the mental hospital, he is upset about the deteriorating psychological condition of uncle Mustafa. Sawsan warns Ra'afat about Alawiya and her false interest in him.
Ra'afat continues to give history lessons to the children in the house in which he resides. Hala breaks off her engagement with Amr. Alawiya asks Sawsan to keep Ra'afat away from Hala, believing that he's the reason behind breaking off her engagement.
As Ra'afat continues to work with Sawsan in the clothing store, Hala proposes to her uncle to get engaged to Sawsan. Amr discovers Ra'afat's psychological condition and his previous history in a mental hospital.
Alawiya and her husband claim that she spent a lot of money on treating Ra'afat and that he has used up all of his inheritance; Ra'afat's friend proposes that he file a lawsuit against her. Ra'afat quarrels with Sawsan for relying on bribes in her customs work.
When Alawiya's husband, Abdel Hady, offers Ra'afat to travel abroad with a sum of money to get out of their lives, he refuses. As Ra'afat finds his house wrecked, he accuses Abdel Hady and Alawiya of being behind it; he's forced to work as a cab driver.
Ra'afat experiences many problems with the passengers while he is driving the cab. Na'ima, Ra'afat's neighbor, discovers that her husband has divorced her and married another.
As Ra'afat decides to quit the taxi cab driver job, he helps Na'ima to work in Sawsan's shop. Alawiya rejects Hala's wish to get engaged to her colleague Magdy. When the landlord throws Ra'afat out, Ra'afat decides to leave everything behind and return to the mental hospital again.
