After the lawyer Rady defends his client Maemon in a case involving government agencies, he sues Maemon himself for not paying his fees for the last seven years. Returning from a dinner party in Nashat's house, three thieves steal Maemon's car.
Rady tries to broker a deal for Maemon's villa. Nashat takes Maemon to report the car theft. In Italy, Maemon's son Youssef runs into trouble for not being an Italian citizen.
When Youssef is arrested, his wife Sophia bails him out, only for his mother-in-law to make him sign a promissory note for the bail money then kick him out. Maemon negotiates the villa's price with the American Ambassador and his wife.
As Dr. Hussein discusses the villa with Rady, he discovers that Maemon only owns one third of the property, with Hamida and Momtaz owning the other two thirds. Carla tries to help Youssef obtain the Italian citizenship.
As Maemon continues to negotiate the price, Hamida decides to divorce Maemon and give her son Youssef power of attorney.
A storm looms as Nevine announces her decision to marry the jeweler Loka's son. Maemon finds out about the divorce case. He is summoned by the National Security Colonel Fahmi to discuss how a Muslim wants to marry a Christian.
Rady tries to convince Hamida to take out a loan and buy Maemon's share in the villa. He informs her that Maemon has a second wife. Youssef threatens to protest in front of the Italian Council of Ministers.
Maemon reconciles with Hamida who withdraws her divorce case. He tells her that his frequent trips to Mansoura are for accounting work. When a bomb explodes at a Mansoura bank, it is revealed that Maemon keeps his money at that bank.
Fahmi summons Maemon to question him on how he owns a billion dollar. Youssef decides to return to Egypt with his wife when he discovers that his father is a billionaire. Hamida disappears and Maemon looks for her.
Maemon calls his children looking for Hamida. Esmat tells him that Hamida is having a surgery and refuses to give up her location.
After Esmat vanishes with the money she took for Hamida's operation, Maemon learns that she went to France. Nevine gets a call that Hamida is coming back. Youssef arrives with his family.
As Maemon deals with trouble with the Egyptian Tax Authority, Hamida bails him out and reaches an agreement that cuts his taxes in half. Youssef plots to get control of his father's fortune.
Youssef is accused of joining a terrorist group but manages to prove his innocence. As the family gathers to celebrate Maemon and Hamida's anniversary, their daughter Zeinab arrives with her family.
Zeinab's husband, the religious Moatz, shakes things up in Maemon's house. Rady tells him that the American Ambassador wants to meet him and Moatz agrees after he learns that he can still get the money when he is abroad.
Youssef complains that Moatz won't allow him to see his sister Zeinab. He plots with Hamida and Moatz to seize Maemon's fortune and divide it among them.
Sophia's stepfather Eduardo complains about Moatz's attitude. Moatz is arrested for being a member in the terrorist group that bombed the bank. Zakaria, Maemon and Hamida's son, comes home.
Maemon discovers that Zakaria's in-laws are Jewish and on their way to Tel Aviv. Moatz meets Gad, Zakaria's father-in-law. Upon learning that he is Jewish, he refuses to leave the house until Zeinab gets her share of Maemon's fortune.
Fahmi is concerned over the cohabitation of Muslim, Christian and Jewish families. He speaks of brotherhood and tolerance but his words aren't well-received. The family splits among religious lines.
Youssef learns that his father withdrew all his fortune from the bank. Rady meets up with Youssef, Moatz and Zakaria and agrees with them to watch Maemon to discern his fortune's location.
Zakaria refuses to participate in Youssef and Rady's plot to interdict Mamon's money and gathers his family to talk him into willingly giving them money. Maemon is arrested after three government agencies sue him.
Hamida is dejected that her children sold the villa. Youssef tries to buy it back from the American Ambassador. He discovers that Maemon might have hid the money in the villa's basement and plans with Zakaria to look for it.
During their futile search, Youssef falls down the chimney. Youssef sells his car and Hamida borrows money from Nashat so they can pay the Ambassador and get the villa back.
Zakaria's in-laws plan Nadee's judaization with a rabbi. A bomb is planted in Maemon's house. As they prepare to celebrate Nader's birthday, the bomb explodes injuring Zakaria.
As an investigation is launched, Maemon's prison truck is attacked by masked men who release the prisoners and take Maemon, leading to speculation that Maemon is a member of a terrorist group.
As the Public Funds Police interrogate Youssef and Hamida, the two of them discover that Rady was working for the Ambassador all along. Youssef has to sign a promissory note to cover a loan.
Rady apologies to Hamida and promises to protect the villa. Hamida begs Maemon to pay the required taxes and penalty but he refuses. As she files for divorce, Maemon goes on a hunger strike and is hospitalized.
Hussein gets a court order of his ownership of two thirds of Maemon's villa. The remaining third is put to auction but Rady and Maemon's son Yehya manage to prevent Hussein from buying it. Yehya pays the required taxes and promises to settle everything.
Rady gets Yehya's permission to visit Maemon in prison. Yehya pays his father's debts and gets him released. Hamida leaves for an elderly home as Maemon stresses the importance of finding a job to his children.
When he finds out that a bomb was planted in his home, Maemon evacuates his children and contacts Fahmi. As the bomb squad disables the bomb, the police arrest Moatz.
Maemon and Hamida remarry as do Zakaria and Nevine. Maemon dies at the wedding, leaving a will that leads to the location of his fortune: an iron box in the cemetery.
