    Great action scenes, stellar dialogue

As an action/superhero film, The Avengers certainly delivers. With a lineup of Marvel's finest superheroes, and an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey,...Read more Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson, it's hard to go wrong. The fight scenes are fast-paced, exciting, and well-executed. However, what truly puts this movie well above others in its class is the dialogue, thanks to screenwriter and director Joss Whedon. Whatever the tenor of the scene, the dialogue between characters is smart and witty, even in fight scenes and in the major battle, as pieces of New York skyscrapers tumble down around the characters. Thus, while entertaining, the film does not feel dumbed down, and adds some great humor in a genre that sometimes takes itself too seriously and focuses more on muscle and explosions than clever content and believable human interactions.
