The new irrigation inspector, Abd Rabbo, arrives in the village to take on his new job. As he inquires about the mayor's house, someone leads him to Fadloun's house, where he’s upset to find Fadloun's men torturing some people.
Abd Rabbo clashes with the mayor and his men as he stood by Abul Ela. Bandits attack Fadloun's house on the night of his son Eid's wedding in a failed attempt to kill him. Fadloun prepares to marry a young woman from Cairo.
Abul Ela quarrels with a farmer for not complying with the irrigation schedule, and when Abd Rabbo intervenes to resolve the matter, Fadloun beats him up. As Abd Rabbo falls ill, Fadloun gives him leave.
Abd Rabbo goes with his friend to the place where his first sweetheart resides after her marriage; his friend tries to advise him to forget her and focus on his future, when he suddenly meets her and her husband, who hosts them in his home.
Magawish learns from the guards why Fadloun is trying to bury his new wife Zubaida and the fact that she verbally assaulted him, which upsets Bakhita, who asks Fadloun to save her from death, so he saves and forgives her.
Zubaida continues to relate her story to Fadloun, telling him about her escape after killing the man who tried to rape her. Fadloun takes her to the train station to return to Cairo and divorces her.
Everyone talks about Fadloun's divorcing his new wife Zubaida and sending her back to Cairo, while Fadloun still remembers Houria, and inquires from the irrigation inspector Abd Rabbo about Zubaida's address.
Zubaida tries everything to reach her son, evading Bashandi, who is trying to kill her to avenge his father. Abd Rabbo continues to fathom Fadloun's personality and what lies beneath his cruel facade.
Illusions and dreams haunt Fadloun, who longs for Zubaida and wants to see her again. The mayor asks Fadloun to wed his son to his daughter, Siyada, who reads Abd Rabbo's articles in the newspaper and admires them without knowing the writer's identity.
Fadloun tells his son Abul Qasim of the mayor's wish that his son marries Siyada, whereas Fadloun tells Abd Rabbo that he’s very impressed with the story he wrote and published in the newspaper. Abd Rabbo meets Fadloun's daughter and falls for her.
The mayor's son Abed refuses to marry Siyada, but the mayor persuades him, while Abul Qasim blesses the marriage and Fadloun agrees.
Fadloun asks his assistant, Magawish, to take Atwan and those with him to the mayor's men, whereupon they catch them, and Fadloun accompanies them with his son Jumaa.
As Ismail and Emara get arrested on charges of trafficking in artifacts, they ask the mayor of their village to appoint a lawyer for them. Fadloun travels with Magawish to Cairo and they go to the orphanage where Zubaida’s son is, after which he asks Magawish to kidnap him.
The bandits’ leader and his aides shoot Jumaa, Fadloun’s son, and burn his crop, whereupon Abd Rabbo manages to save and treat Jumaa; meanwhile, Magawish manages to kidnap Zubaida’s son from the orphanage.
Fadloun suspects Mansour's sons of shooting Jumaa. Zubaida remains upset to be away from her son after Fadloun managed to save him from Bashandi.
Abd Rabbo returns to work after his mother's death, after which everyone celebrates Siyada's wedding to the mayor's son. Najat takes care of Zubaida’s son.
When Siyada quarrels with her husband, the mayor’s son, and he beats her, she turns to her father, Fadloun. The mayor manages to arrange with someone to claim that the artifacts, which Emara and Ismail are accused of stealing, belong to him.
Zubaida arrives at Fadloun's house and thanks him for taking care of her son, Hassan. Emara and Ismail are released. The bandits’ leader quarrels with Mansour’s son.
It’s revealed that Hammam is the one behind the attempt to kill the son of Fadloun, who tells Abd Rabbo that he wants to make sure first before dealing with Hammam.
The bandits’ leader quarrels with Hammam and shoots him. When Fadloun goes to offer his condolences to Ismail and Emara, they vow to get him for causing what happened.
Fadloun asks Zubaida to stay in the house, whereupon she’s sentenced to prison in a murder case. Abd Rabbo resolves clashes between farmers. Atwan tells Mansour's family that Fadloun is the reason why they went to prison.
Abul Qasim remains upset by his father Fadloun's decision to force him to marry another woman. As Zubaida tells Fadloun that she’s pregnant with his child, he asks Abd Rabbo to travel to Cairo and appoint a lawyer for her in the murder case.
Fadloun discovers Haridy's escape from prison. Sutohi is forced to complain about Jumaa to Fadloun, who promises him to take care of the matter. The lawyer asks Abd Rabbo that Zubaida turn herself in to the police.
Abul Qasim apologizes to his wife, Najat, and tries to fix things with her. Fadloun remarries Zubaida, after which he asks his son Jumaa to stay away from Sutohi.
When Jumaa kills Sutohi after a quarrel between them, Fadloun tries to force a guard to confess that Jumaa committed the crime by mistake while cleaning his weapon. Abd Rabbo is hired at the newspaper.
Jumaa, Fadloun and the townspeople are questioned in Sutohi's killing, whereupon Rajab confesses to killing him, so Jumaa gets released. As Fadloun goes in person to Sutohi's mother to pay her the blood money, she rejects it.
Haridy is injured during a police attack and goes into a coma. The bandits confirm that Fadloun has betrayed them. Fawaz warns Fadloun of the plot of Mansour’s sons and the bandits to attack the village.
When the bandits attack the village, Fadloun and Jumaa fight them. Abd Rabbo gets upset when he learns that Jumaa killed Sutohi and Fadloun covered up the matter.
As Fadloun reads Abd Rabbo's diary, he rages at him and asks him to leave town before he gets killed. Abul Qasim shocks his father by refusing to marry another woman. Ismail shoots Najat and Abul Qasim.
As Abul Qasim gets killed, Fadloun goes out to avenge his son, whereupon he kills Ismail, the mayor and Emara. Jumaa is also killed. The bandits take advantage of Fadloun’s absence from the village, so they attack his house and burn it.
