As Dr. Devon Pravesh starts his internship, he finds himself clashing with his eccentric supervisor, Dr. Conrad Hawkins, who is known for his unusual medical practices. Devon meets Lily, a regular patient who is close to the hospital staff.

Conrad clashes with Randolph Bell over the recipient of a donor heart. Devon faces tremendous pressure when he is left alone to cover the ER.

As Bell seeks discreet medical advice for his tremors, his doctors come together to help an uninsured patient, stirring up conflict with the administration over her bill.

Nic grows suspicious of Lane's practices when her attempts to get Lily's medical records hit a stonewall. Mina's actions in the OR with an attending surgeon leave her benched.

When Nic steps in to try and protect Lily, Lane swiftly retaliates and bans Nic from seeing to her patients. A wealthy benefactor with personal ties to Conrad arrives at the hospital. Mina faces heat over an incident in the OR.

Devon comes around to Nic's side against Lane Hunter. Conrad struggles to balance his issues with his father with his advocacy for a new patient. Nic discovers a shocking secret about Mina.

Conrad and Nic go against the administration that tries to silence the latter's complaint about harassment. Despite his initial refusal to believe Nic about Lane, a questionable medical choice on Lane's part raises his suspicions.

Conrad and Nic force Bell's hands to admit a patient. As they discover the patient's real identity, they race to find out what's wrong with her before she is carted off to a psychiatric facility.

When a face from Conrad's past shows up at the hospital, Nic realizes that there is a lot that she doesn't know about him. Upon learning that Nic is onto her, Lane hastens to cover her tracks with tragic consequences.

Conrad and Nic struggle to move on after Lily's death. Bell's ability to operate is called into question. Lane continues to plot to come up on the winning side.

With the hospital facing heat in the wake of Lily's death and an incident in the OR, Lane and Bell put their schemes into effect to get rid of Claire. Lane pins Lily's death on Nic.

Nic's investigation into Lane's actions leaves her in peril. The doctors scramble to save the life of one of their own after a freak accident. Mina is asked to woo a visiting cardio surgeon to convince him to join Chastain.

Nic's sister suffers a relapse and returns to drugs. Dr. AJ Austin and Mina team up to perform complicated awake surgery. Lane sets Nic up to get her in more legal trouble.

As Conrad scrambles to help the imprisoned Nic, Devon stumbles upon a patient that helps him prove Lane's criminal acts.
