When Pa and Ma accidentally find drug addict James stranded on a New Mexico road, they take him to their ranch located in Half Acre, New Mexico, but things get inextricably complicated afterward.

As he settles with Pa and Ma, James tries to make sense of the people and events around him. James gradually realizes that Pastor Byron Brown isn't the kind man he took him for.

As Pa drives an ice-cream truck, James is busy fighting a rattlesnake that he encountered and provoked, and Felipe oversees the daily-exercises for the astronaut training.

As Pa drives the ice-cream truck to Hector's house located in Mexico, James interrupts Felipe's astronaut training, causing the two to have a quarrel.

On the Mexican Father's Day, Pa takes Hector's sons to their school since their father is extremely busy. Meanwhile, James helps Glenn find a way out of the desert.

When Pa gains control over Hector, things go completely wrong for everyone. Pa asks Hector to look after Ma who's in a terrible state.

As James and Glenn have a heated discussion, things at New Leaf aggravate.

The lives of Pa and Ma are endangered when they face off against the cartel sisters in New Mexico, while James is overburdened with mounting pressure from Wesley.

In Mexico, Pa and Ma are surrounded by cartel members everywhere, while James's presence at Half Acre adds up to the skills he never knew he would acquire.

Driven to the killing fields in Mexico, Pa and Ma are still unaware that a tragic death is being prepared for them at the hands of a cartel's henchmen. Back in Half Acre, James prepares for new funeral rituals.
