Judge Ibn Ziyad studied at the hands of Malik Ibn Anas and took over the judiciary in Kairouan twice. He did not flatter the people in power. Once a man gave him wheat and he refused it, just as he refused a woman who came from the Emir's side. He left the judiciary and traveled to Tunisia where he died.

Judge Ibn Ziyad

Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Farroukh studied in Medina and returned to Kairouan where he studied Sharia. When he refused to be appointed as the judge for Africa, the Emir ordered his imprisonment until he finally accepted the position. He asked to be exempt, as he returned to teaching until he passed away.

The Emir asks Imam Sahnun to take over the post of the judiciary of Africa, he refuses at first, but at the Emir's insistence, he accepts. During his reign, strife arises in the city of Tunis, as the army takes girls as maids, and when Imam Sahnun finds out, he asks the Emir to get back the girls.

Abdullah was a scholar and judge of Kairouan. He was ascetic to the extent that his wife borrowed flour from her neighbors for the lack of money. He ruled justly even at the expense of the Governor who wronged one of the men and was dismissed by the Sultan. The judge remained in office until his death.
