American actor, who was born in Guthrie Center, Iowa, USA on May 4, 1910. He married Gertrude Durkin (1937-1970) with whom he got two children. When she died, he married Lois Bretherton (1972-1993) and remained with her until his death. His most important works include: The...Read more Plainsman (1936), Vivacious Lady (1938), and Charley's Aunt (1941). He grew up on a farm in Valère Montana, where he learned skills that later helped him perform in cowboy films. His family travelled to Los Angeles when he was a young man, where he fell in love with theater and studied at the Pasadena Theater. He then traveled to New York to complete his studies before returning to California to star on some of its small theaters. He co-starred in romantic films and musicals as a supporting actor, and in the fifties, he starred as a leading actor in some western movies. In the late fifties, he retired and engaged in real estate investment, where he made a fortune that exceeded what he achieved during his work in art. He died on December 23, 1993 (age 83) in Montecito, California, USA.
