Franchot then went back to Broadway, but was forced to return to Hollywood to complete his contract with MGM until 1944. He starred in the war film Five Graves to Cairo (1943), then Phantom Lady (1944), after which he started working as a producer. Then he turned to the television and theater and left Hollywood for 10 years, but he returned again to Hollywood and presented his last film The High Commissioner (1968). Franchot Tone was nominated for an Academy Award in 1936 for Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his film work.
