An American screenwriter, born in Massachusetts, United States. As a teenager he became editor of a Boy Scout weekly, and he earned enough money to enroll in Massachusetts State College. He majored in English, and continued his interest in radio, but began his career as a journalist after serving with the US Army during World War II, then moved to California, where he wrote a number of radio series. He collaborated with director Alfred Hitchcock in four films. Among his credits are To Catch a Thief, Rear Window, and Where Love Has Gone. He died on November 19, 2008.
