He is a British actor, who excelled in performing the classic plays of William Shakespeare since 1900, and he stood on stage London theater for the first time in the role of Hamlet in 1909. He served in the Royal Army during the First World War, and after the war, he returned to the theater in 1918 and received strong critical acclaim for his performance of the role of Hamlet. He played a distinguished role in the film Ben-Hur (1959) which was his last cinematic role.
