He returned to Baghdad in 1959 and was appointed in the same year as a teacher of acting and theater directing at the Institute of Fine Arts. He worked as director of the National Theater in the last days of his life, in addition to continuing to teach. Among his most important plays are Juha's Nail, Daughter of the Weaver, Delusional Patient, and Ghosts. He died in Baghdad in 1988.
