By 1977, his company had become the largest private ambulance 9-1-1 paramedic provider. During his ownership, the company received dozens of awards and commendations. He retired and lived at his ranch with his second wife, Hermine, until he passed away on September 1, 2003 in Santa Ynez, California, USA from cancer.
