He refuses to hand over any of his booty to help out his father-in-law. Another sister is married to a businessman with enough money to buy several carpentry shops, but he is no better than the smuggler when it comes to human generosity. Finally, Hassan's third sister, married to a Kuwaiti citizen, says that she and her husband are both willing to give her father the money they have saved to buy an apartment. That selfless act could rescue the carpentry business, but it is too late. The aged father dies before he can learn that the money to save his shop is on the way. Frustrated and grief-stricken, Hassan decides to change his personal life, he is no longer willing to turn a blind eye to the petty (and not so petty) corruption he sees percolating around him.
